MedChip is a low-cost medical emergency bracelet that stores critical health information on an embedded NFC chip. Emergency responders or bystanders can scan the bracelet with a standard smartphone to access allergies, medications, blood type, emergency contacts, and other key medical details.
The design focuses on affordability and accessibility. By using commodity NFC tags, a 3D-printed enclosure, and design-for-manufacturing principles, the production cost was reduced from roughly $60 to $3.50. The project earned a Silver Medallion at WWSEF 2024.
Medical emergency bracelets can cost $60+ and often depend on proprietary readers, limiting access for people who need reliable medical identification.
Makes life-saving medical ID more accessible at a fraction of the cost of conventional medical bracelets.
