identibear
ai memory companion for people with dementia or face blindness (prosopagnosia)

description

Identibear is a memory-assistance project for people with dementia or prosopagnosia. It uses facial recognition to identify familiar people and then speaks their name, relationship, and optional memory context through a calm audio cue.

The project intentionally uses a plush companion form factor instead of a clinical device. Caregivers can upload short videos of family members or friends, label them with relationship details, and use the system to help the user recognize people more comfortably during everyday interactions.

problem

People with dementia or prosopagnosia cannot reliably recognize familiar faces, which can create anxiety, embarrassment, and social isolation.

key features
  • Embedded camera identifies registered faces with AI recognition
  • Audio cues deliver name, relationship, and memory context discreetly
  • Soft plush form factor reduces stigma compared with clinical devices
impact

Supports more confident social interaction for people with face-recognition and memory challenges.
